Brandy Brian Barnes, whose last known address was in Valley Springs, entered a guilty plea to charges against him stemming from two break-ins at the same house along Buford Road in mid-January.

The 37-year-old Barnes was given 10 years in prison, with three to serve and seven suspended during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

On January 12th, the victims reported their residence had been broken into and reported three days later the garage door at the home had been left up about a foot.

The victims were in the process of relocating to another Arkansas city and had moved most of their possessions out of the Buford Road house, but had not completed the move at the time of the break-ins.

When deputies arrived at the home, which was supposed to be unoccupied at the time, they heard someone inside the residence. When deputies announced themselves, the person fled. Deputies were able to catch the male, later identified as Barnes. He was found to be in possession of items reported taken from the home.

Firearms were among the items missing, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Barnes faced a number of charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of residential burglary, theft of property and fleeing.

He was charged as a habitual offender. The state did not add a specific number of extra years to his sentence because of the habitual offender status, but chose to adjust his sentence to reflect it.

Restitution has yet to be determined.
