MH baseball, softball teams among local squads beginning state tournaments

Baseball, softball and soccer make up the local Thursday schedule as several area teams will begin state tournament play.

The Mountain Home High School baseball team will be in Greenwood for the Class 6A State Tournament. The Bombers’ opening opponent will be Russellville.
Mountain Home comes into the tournament as the number three seed from the East with a record of 11-18. Russellville is the West’s sixth-seeded team.
This will be the Bombers’ first trip to the state tournament under the direction of Tim Carver, and he says his squad has shown significant improvements from when the season began.

The first pitch is scheduled for 12:30.

The Class 1A State Baseball Tournament will hold its second round action in Mountain Home with Mammoth Spring serving as the designated host. On Pitts Field at McClain Park, Armorel and Mount Vernon-Enola get underway at 10 a.m., Lead Hill meets Taylor at 12:30, South Side-Bee Branch faces Bradley at 3:00, and Viola takes on Alpena at 5:30. On Lester White Field at Cooper Park, Omaha plays Hillcrest at 10:00, Midland will be paired with Dierks at 12:30, Concord meets Kirby at 3:00, and Bay faces Woodlawn at 5:30.

Mountain Home’s softball team will join their baseball counterparts in Greenwood for the Class 6A State Tournament. The Lady Bombers will be matched up with Texarkana in the opening round.
Mountain Home is 13-15 on the season, and they are the fourth-seeded team from the East. Texarkana is the West’s number five seed.
Head coach Chris Cudworth says the Lady Razorbacks are playing well and will be a tough opponent.

Mammoth Spring continues to host the Class 1A State Softball Tournament as the second round will be held in Mountain Home. At Keller Park, Omaha plays the first game at 10:00 against Ouachita, Mount Vernon-Enola takes on Dierks at 12:30, Midland plays Mount Ida at 3:00, and Viola meets Taylor at 5:30. On Freedom Field at McClain Park, Calico Rock gets the action started at 10:00 against Acorn, Rural Special faces Woodlawn at 12:30, Concord takes on Bradley at 3:00, and Lead Hill will be paired with Rector at 5:30.
Salem’s softball team will be in Pangburn for the first game in the Class 2A State Tournament. The Lady Greyhounds play Hector at 10:00.
Mountain View’s opener in the Class 3A State Tournament will be in Smackover. The Lady Yellowjackets meet Charleston at 12:30.

The Harrison girls’ soccer team will get to stay at home as they host the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Goblins face White Hall at 10:00.
