The 1 Million Meals initiative has exceeded its goal with more than three weeks remaining in the campaign. The announcement came Thursday morning from Arvest Bank officials.
Arvest officials announced the kick off of its eighth annual 1 Million Meals initiative in early April, challenging bank associates, customers and community members to fight hunger in the more than 120 communities the bank serves by providing meals to those in need. As of Thursday, a total of 1,002,353 meals had been raised.
In Mountain Home, Arvest is partnering with the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas for the 1 Million Meals campaign. Donations benefit the food banks backpack program and other backpack programs managed by other area nonprofit organizations. Every dollar raised through 1 Million Meals provides the equivalent of five meals for local, hungry families.
Sally Gilbert, Market President of Arvest Bank in Mountain Home, says reaching the goal early is great news, but the efforts are not slowing.
Gilbert says every donation means someone in our community wont have to face food insecurity at mealtime. She says efforts will continue to raise as much funding as possible for the next few weeks. Gilbert says it’s hoped the is community continues to support local hunger relief organizations throughout the year.
Arvest branches have been participating in the 1 Million Meals initiative by collecting nonperishable food items and monetary donations. These efforts will continue through June 2nd, with the donations given to the local communities Arvest serves later in the month.
