MH baseball, softball teams win state openers

The Mountain Home High School baseball team won its opener in the Class 6A State Tournament Thursday at Greenwood in thrilling fashion as the Bombers doubled up Russellville 4-2. Mountain Home’s Luke Kruse delivered a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Mountain Home improves to 13-18 on the season.

The Class 1A State Baseball Tournament held second round action at Mountain Home.
Viola dominated its first game in the tournament. The Longhorns routed Alpena by a final of 17-2. Viola’s next opponent will be South Side-Bee Branch who beat up on Bradley 13-3.
Lead Hill watched its season come to an end. The Tigers fell to Taylor by a 16-0 decision.
Omaha was also one and done in the tournament. The Eagles lost to Hillcrest 12-2.
Among Thursday’s other scores, Midland pounded Dierks 14-3, Kirby destroyed Concord 15-2, Woodlawn beat up on Bay 13-3, and Armorel doubled up Mount Vernon-Enola 12-6.

Mountain Home’s softball squad was victorious in the opening round of the Class 6A State Tournament at Greenwood. The Lady Bombers shut out Texarkana 7-0.
Lauren Loving picked up the win in the circle after pitching a complete game and striking out seven batters. Grace Gilbert led the Mountain Home offense with three base hits and three RBIs; Sydnie Zimmer provide three hits, scored a run and stole a base; Maly Tabor had two hits, two runs and an RBI; and Addison Yates added a hit and two RBIs.
The Lady Bombers are now 14-15 on the year.

The second round of the Class 1A State Softball Tournament was held at Mountain Home.
Viola was eliminated in its first game in the tournament. The Lady Longhorns fell to Taylor 11-0.
Calico Rock continued its winning ways and advanced to the quarterfinals. The Lady Pirates edged out Acorn 5-4.
Calico Rock’s next opponent will be Woodlawn. Rural Special lost to the Lady Bears 20-12.
Lead Hill’s season came to an end in one of the Thursday’s last games. The Lady Tigers were defeated by Rector 10-0.
Omaha was one and done in one of the first games of the day. The Lady Eagles fell to Ouachita 13-3.
In other second round action, Mount Vernon-Enola beat Dierks 9-5, Midland squeaked by Mount Ida 6-5, and Concord shut out Bradley 13-0.

Salem’s softball season came to an end in the Class 2A State Tournament at Pangburn. The Lady Greyhounds lost to Hector 9-5.

Mountain View lost its opener in the Class 3A State Tournament at Smackover. The Lady Yellowjackets fell to Charleston 6-2.
