The Orchard Project received a $1,500 grant Wednesday from the Arvest Foundation. The project was started by the Mid-Marion County Rotary Club, and promotes the planting of fruit trees to help bring a variety of healthy food choices to the Yellville-Summit School System.

More than 2,000 people in the Yellville community will be exposed to the orchard, a key component to an already thriving farm-to-school program at Yellville-Summit Schools. Once the orchard is mature, it will provide another food source for the schools.

During the implementation of the project, the Rotary Club will invite experts to discuss the economic impact of fruit production in the Ozarks and the benefits of school gardens and agricultural opportunities in Arkansas. These classes will be open to the public and will take place during the weekly Monday Rotary meetings held at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Yellville.
