Lori Ann Thorne, whose last listed address was in Gassville, is now in trouble in both Baxter and Marion counties.

The 53-year-old Thorne is accused in Baxter County of breaking into a house along Nelson Avenue in Mountain Home in June 2014. DNA on a discarded cigarette found on the kitchen floor of the home led to Thorne being named a suspect. She now faces charges of residential burglary in Baxter county.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the Baxter County case, Mountain Home police were called to the residence to investigate the break-in. They noted entry to the home had been gained by breaking out a kitchen window at the rear of the structure. The officers said it appeared various areas of the residence had been gone through, including closets, drawers, and a space where medicine was stored.

A partially smoked cigarette was left on the kitchen floor and taken into evidence. The cigarette was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. It took about nine months for the lab to report to Mountain Home police DNA taken from the cigarette was a match to Thorne.

In the affidavit filed in the Mountain Home case, it was noted Thorne’s mother lived directly behind the residence broken into, and Thorne was living with her mother at the time.

Thorne is also accused of breaking into a relative’s home in Marion County. On January 5, 2015, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence along Marion County Road 7033, the home of Thorne’s sister — Clara Chamberlain and her husband.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Chamberlain residence had been broken into and items with an estimated value of $60,000 removed. The victims pointed the finger at Thorne as someone who should be looked at as being responsible for the break-in and theft. They said jewelry and weapons taken from the home were stored in a concealed compartment in the residence, and Thorne had knowledge of the hiding place.

On the day of the break-in at the sister’s residence, a car belonging to the mother of Thorne and Chamberlain was left unattended behind the Chamberlain residence. The mother had filed an unauthorized use complaint with the Mountain Home Police Department. The mother said Thorne had taken the vehicle on January 4, 2015, and she believed her daughter was headed to California.

Meanwhile, a car belonging to the Chamberlain couple had been taken from an attached garage at their residence the day of the break-in, making it appear Thorne had switched vehicles. Investigators believed Thorne and her teenage son were both going to California with the property stolen from the Chamberlain home, including their vehicle.

According to records from the Colorado Department of Corrections, Thorne did spend time in jail in that state for crimes committed in April 2015. It has been announced in Baxter County Circuit Court sessions that Thorne was alleged to have committed an armed robbery in Colorado.

The cases in Arkansas were apparently dormant until early January this year when Thorne was booked into the Marion County jail on a string of charges stemming from the break-in at her sister’s home, including residential burglary, theft of property, theft of firearms and vehicle theft.

Thorne’s next appearance in Marion County is set for May 16th. She remains an inmate in the Marion County jail with bond set at $25,000. She is due to reappear on the Baxter County charges July 26th.
