Brittany Saunders of Midway entered a guilty plea to a number of drug-related charges and was sentenced to four years probation during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

The 27-year-old Saunders was arrested March 12th when Mountain Home police officers were contacted by Department of Human Services investigators and asked to come to an address along Powers Street.

The DHS investigators had come to the residence to look into possible drug use in the presence of a young child.

According to the probable cause affidavit, when officers arrived they reported finding a “heavy fog of marijuana smoke” in the house, and it was particularly strong in the garage.

A male present in the house admitted to officers he had smoked marijuana in the garage. Saunders acknowledged she had a pipe for smoking methamphetamine in her bedroom and later led the police to her room where they found multiple smoking pipes with narcotic residue.

Saunders provided a urine sample showing a positive result for marijuana and methamphetamine use. A crystalline substance found in the house field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

A misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a minor was dropped by the state. According to 14th Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kerry Chism, the young child is now in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
