Courtesy of Julien’s AuctionsNew York City’s Hard Rock Café is the site of a two-day music-memorabilia auction, starting today, offering guitars owned by Prince, George Harrison and Robbie Robertson, among many other collectibles.
Today, Friday, is the first day of the sale, and it features property from Prince’s life and career. The auction, starts at 2 p.m. ET and guitars, outfits, shoes, gold and platinum record awards, recording equipment, photographs, jewelry and handwritten lyrics are among the items up for bid.
The item expected to fetch the most is a custom-made Yellow Cloud guitar that Prince played onstage — it’s estimated to bring in between $60,000 and $80,000. Another pricey collectible is an electric-blue outfit that the late music icon wore while performing with Lenny Kravitz during a 1999 New Year’s Eve event at his Paisley Park residence; it’s valued at between $50,000 and $70,000.
The auction’s second day, which will feature memorabilia from a wide variety of artists, is Saturday, May 18, and includes two sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET, respectively. Among the sale’s highlights: two historic guitars, one previously owned by George Harrison and the other belonging to The Band’s Robbie Robertson.
Harrison’s instrument is a Hofner Club 40 model that he acquired in 1959; it was the first electric guitar ever owned by the late Beatles legend. It’s expected to bring in as much as $300,000.
Robertson’s guitar is a 1965 Fender Telecaster that he used at a variety of famous recording sessions and concerts, and also was played over the years by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Harrison. It’s estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000.
