Courtesy of Apple MusicThe new documentary and concert film Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band, documenting a show the punk poetess played to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her 2015 debut album, Horses, is now available to stream exclusively at Apple Music.
The movie documents Smith’s January 8, 2016, show at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. It featured a full performance of the Horses album, and as well as a cover of The Who’s “My Generation.” Smith was accompanied at the show by her longtime backing band, which includes guitarists Lenny Kaye and Jack Petruzzelli, drummer Jay Dee Daugherty and bassist Tony Shanahan. Patti’s son, guitarist Jackson Smith, also took part in the show, as did Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.
Horses: Patti Smith and Her Band also includes intimate backstage footage.
The film, which got its premiere last month at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, was directed by Steven Sebring, whose credits also include the 2008 documentary Patti Smith: Dream of Life. Yoiuy cabn watch a trailer at Apple’s official YouTube channel.
A companion soundtrack album to the movie can be pre-ordered now via iTunes, and will be released on Friday, June 8.
