Searcy County voters to elect new sheriff in November

The Searcy County preferential primary election included four Republican races highlighted by the Republican nomination for sheriff.

Searcy County will elect a new sheriff and tax collector in the general election. Kenny Cassell finished with 52 percent of the votes to top incumbent Joey Pruitt with 48 percent, and he face will independent candidates Paul Ray Johns and Jovey M. Marshall in November.

Jim Harness was elected to be the Searcy County judge after gathering 56 percent of the votes. Harness defeated Brian Ragland who had 44 percent, and he will be unopposed in the general election.

The position of District 4 Justice of the Peace was captured by Danny Loggins with 55 percent of the votes. Loggins was able to beat Nathan Treadwell by ten percentage points, and he will not have an opponent in the fall.

Robert Baysinger will be the District 7 Justice of the Peace with 64 percent of the votes. Baysinger topped Ronald Garrison who had the other 36 percent, and there will not be a general election race.

In addition, Billy Jackson was elected to serve Zone 4 on the Searcy County School Board. Jackson finished with 68 percent to beat Althea Baysinger O’Haver with 32 percent.

There was also a sales and use tax issue in the city of Marshall. It was voted down with 52 percent against it, and 48 percent were in favor.
