Baxter Co. Veterans Service Officer to speak at Memorial Day event

The annual Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning at 11:00 at the Mountain Home Plaza 2000 across from the Baxter County Courthouse. This year’s event is hosted by the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council and co-sponsored by the Twin Lakes of the Ozarks Fleet Reserve Association Branch 251 and Auxiliary Unit.

Baxter County Veterans Services Officer Charles Leonard will be the keynote speaker. Leonard spent 28 years in the United States Air Force after enlisting in June of 1987 and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. During his enlistment, Chief Leonard deployed to numerous locations including Turkey, Kuwait, Iraq and different parts of the United States and received 20 major awards and decorations.

Richard Caster will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America,” and other patriotic music will be provided by the Mountain Home High School Band. Twin Lakes of the Ozarks Fleet Reserve Association President David Butts will serve as the master of ceremonies, and the invocation and benediction will be given by retired U.S. Navy Chaplain Curtis Grant. The ceremony will conclude with the rifle salute by the Alley-White American Legion Post 52 Honor Guard.
