A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows 1.5 million visitors to Buffalo National River in 2017 spent $62.6 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 911 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $71.1 million.

According to Acting Superintendent Laura Miller, “Buffalo National River is pleased to welcome a diverse group of visitors from across the state and around the country.” Miller also stated she hopes local communities will continue to benefit from park tourism.

The NPS report authors have also produced an interactive tool enabling users to explore visitor spending, jobs, labor income, value added, and output effects by sector for national, state, and local economies. The interactive tool and report are available at the NPS Social Science Program webpage at www.nps.gov/subjects/socialscience/vse.htm .
