The Buffalo National River will have a new superintendent this summer. National Park Service Midwest Regional Director Cam Sholly announced Dinosaur National Monument Superintendent Mark Foust will take on his new role in late July.

Foust has spent the last four years at the monument in Utah and Colorado. Prior to his assignment at Dinosaur, he was the chief ranger at Glacier National Park in Montana for eight years. He has also served in supervisory and ranger positions at Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Padre Island National Seashore during his 29-year career. In addition, Foust is an incident commander for the National Park Service’s Type-II all-risk incident management teams working on major incidents and events including hurricanes, floods and Presidential inaugurations.

Foust is a third-generation National Park Service employee. His father, Ray Foust, retired as the superintendent of Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area in California, and his grandfather was an archeologist at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.

Foust received a Bachelor of Science degree in resource science at the University of California, Davis, in 1989. He enjoys competing in triathlons, rafting, kayaking, running, hiking, hunting and biking. Foust will be relocating to the Ozarks with his wife, Lori.
