May sales tax numbers show mixed results

After a down month in April, the May sales tax numbers for Baxter County show a significant increase over the same month last year. The numbers, which reflect sales tax collected in March, are up considerably from May 2017, according to Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize.

The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities. Mountain Home leads the way with $184,768, Gassville collected $30,844, Cotter received $14,398, Lakeview got $10,999, Norfork collected $7,585, Salesville received $6,679, Briarcliff netted $3,503 and Big Flat received $1,544.

Mountain Home Treasurer Rita Murray says the $184,768 in sales taxes from the county collected in March is an increase of 7.59 percent over the May reporting period last year.

The city’s sales tax was $159,272, down 9.5 percent from May of last year.
