Arkansas State University-Mountain Home officials will request seven fee increases and a freeze in tuition when the ASU Board of Trustees meets Thursday morning in West Memphis.

A proposed resolution in the board packet indicates ASUMH officials are requesting to implement five new fees and increase two existing fees, while lowering one. For the first time, the school is proposing to implement a graduation fee of $20 for those seeking a technical certificate or degree and a campus safety and security fee of $1 per student semester credit hour.

The requests equate to a 0.8 percent increase.

With board approval, in-state tuition rates would remain at $96 per student semester credit hour and $157 for out-of-state students per student semester credit hour.

The changes are effective July 1st.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson asked public universities in January to temporarily freeze tuition and for public two-year schools to raise tuition no more than increases in the consumer price index.

The packet also notes resources are being allocated to provide a faculty/non-classified cost-of-living increase of $1,500, an increase of 2 percent cost-of-living and up to 3 percent merit increases for classified employees, and enhanced campus security.

The packet also contains a resolution requesting approval of a slate of candidates to serve on the ASU-Mountain Home Board of Visitors.

Proposed members for three-year terms expiring in 2021 are Stewart Brunner, Jeff Gunn and Ray Stahl. Proposed members for three-year terms expiring in 2020 are Cheryl Davenport, Sonny Elliott and Ron Peterson. Proposed members for two-year terms expiring 2019 are Tim Byler, Jackson Rhoades and Sara Zimmerman.
