ABC/Lou RoccoDolly Parton is teaming up with Netflix to produce a new series of films based on her classic songs. Set to premiere in 2019, the entertainment icon will also appear in select installments.

The eight-episode first season is a partnership between Dolly’s Dixie Pixie Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Dolly says. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix.”

“We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations,” she adds, “and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”

Dolly previously co-produced two very successful TV movies for NBC based on her autobiographical classic song, “Coat of Many Colors.” In the past, she’s discussed possible projects based on both “Jolene” and the gospel-themed “The Seeker.”

Dolly’s currently finishing up work on the soundtrack for the new Dumplin’ feature film, which stars Jennifer Aniston.
