Joey Seymour of Gamaliel entered a no contest plea and was given seven years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

The 33-year-old Seymour was charged with possessing methamphetamine in a 2016 case as the result of a traffic stop on a vehicle with a windshield obstruction. Seymour was in the car. When the vehicle was searched, the trooper found marijuana, a set of digital scales and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

He was also charged for a failure to appear in circuit court.

A plea arrangement had been worked out in mid-August last year, and Seymour was due to appear in circuit court to be sentenced September 14th. But Seymour did not show up in court for sentencing and a failure to appear warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to court records, Seymour remained a fugitive until May 9th, 2018 when officers located him at a residence in Gamaliel. Seymour was reported to have been hiding in the living area of the house.

While he gave no specific reason for his absence, Seymour apologized to the court for not having shown up as required for sentencing in the drug-related charges.
