Bruce Springsteen to perform on the Tony Awards this Sunday

Credit: Danny ClinchWe already knew Bruce Springsteen will be receiving a special award at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards this Sunday, in honor of his ongoing Springsteen on Broadway show.  Now comes word that The Boss also will perform at the ceremony.

CBS will air the gala live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, starting at 8 p.m.  ET.  Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban will host.

Billy Joel, who in 2003 took home the Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for his musical Movin’ Out, will appear as a presenter at the ceremony. Among the other celebrities who’ll either present or perform on the telecast are Robert De Niro, Jim Parsons, Claire Danes, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Kerry Washington, Jeff Daniels, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Mikhail Baryshnikov, John Leguizamo and Christine Baranski.

As previously reported, Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, as well as Cyndi Lauper and her longtime songwriting collaborator, Rob Hyman, have been nominated for the Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre honor, thanks to their contributions to the score for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical.

Springsteen on Broadway opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre in October 2017 and is scheduled to run until December 15 of this year.
