Warner Music NashvilleTonight, Devin Dawson competes for Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2018 CMT Music Awards, thanks to his #2 hit, “All on Me.”

Since his debut single peaked in March, the accolades have come rolling in for the California native, including an Academy of Country Music nomination for New Male Vocalist of the Year.

“[It’s] definitely affirmation,” he says of the recognition. “Definitely a level of, you know, I’m doing something right, people are reacting positively.”

“And I never take them lightly,” he adds. “I will say, these are my first time[s] going through it, so this is my first time experiencing it.”

The Dark Horse singer/songwriter also sees it as a way to mark his progress.

“I think the cool thing for me that it allows me to do is just realize where I was last year, when I didn’t have a nomination,” he admits. “And they kind of act as like checkpoints in a way, and it allows me to zoom out and really just kinda look out the window and smell the roses if you will.”

He continues: “And I’m honored to be nominated, these things that I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid, and now we’re starting to go through it… It’s a cool time to be alive.”

Devin’s set to perform on tonight’s CMT Music Awards as well. You can catch all the action live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, starting at 8 p.m. ET on CMT.
