Leslie HasslerThe long-awaited sequel to Top Gun is currently filming, with original star Tom Cruise reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.  Now, one of the original soundtrack’s stars wants to reprise his role as well.

TMZ caught up with Kenny Loggins in an airport recently and asked him if he’d like the sequel to re-use “Danger Zone,” his #2 hit from the original 1986 movie. Loggins revealed that he’s working on that very thing right now.

“Well, I met Tom Cruise on Fallon and I asked him that question,” Loggins told TMZ. “And he said ‘Of course!’ so I’m hoping to [re]-do it maybe as a duet with a young act.”

“Y’know, I’d love to work with…well, there’s young and then there’s young!” Loggins clarified. “We have some feelers out to some pretty cool rock acts.”

When pressed for details Loggins would only say that the people he’s asking — both bands and solo artists — are male.

Loggins also joked that he’d love to do a walk-on cameo in the sequel but he doubts he could pull that off.

The original Top Gun soundtrack spent five weeks at #1 in 1986 and is one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time.  In addition to “Danger Zone,” it featured the Oscar-winning hit by Berlin, “Take My Breath Away,” as well as songs by Loverboy, Miami Sound Machine, Cheap Trick and Teena Marie.
