CMTThe excitement was building Wednesday evening, as CMT rolled out the red carpet before the 2018 CMT Music Awards.

Even though Brothers Osborne were up for two trophies for “It Ain’t My Fault,” TJ and John were more focused on their performance with tour mate Dierks Bentley

“I think the biggest thing we’re stoked [about] tonight is getting to collaborate with Dierks and play, I think what will be his next single, ‘Burning Man.’ I don’t know if that’s true,” TJ said.

“If all goes well tonight, maybe,” John joked. “If it goes horribly wrong, maybe not… It all depends on us. It’s cool. We’re excited to get to play it. There’s like actual production. This show has pyro. So we’re kinda like taking it up a notch.”

Meanwhile, Midland was upping the ante on their vintage fashion game, sporting threads from one of Nashville’s most famous designers.

“This is borrowed from Manuel,” Mark Wystrach explained. “This is his 50 state collection. I was born and raised in Arizona, so it’s the Arizona jacket. I had to take insurance out on this and write an essay telling him why I deserved to wear this jacket. True story.”

This year, Brantley Gilbert and his wife Amber came to the show for the first time as parents.

“You know man, it’s a lot busier,” Brantley admitted. “Because as soon as we get done talking to ya’ll, we’re heading back to the room so she can feed him and bouncing back and forth. But outside of that, whatever it makes harder in life is worth it.”

The couple’s son Barrett was born last November.
