The Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has recognized Pinkston Middle School as a school showing high growth on the math portion of the ACT Aspire exam. The OP recognizes various highbrowisms of Arkansas schools each year, and this year they chose to recognize schools showing high growth.

According to a congratulatory email sent to district Superintendent Dr. Jake Long and Pinkston Principal Allyson Dewey, the OP thinks “growth is the best indicator of the positive impact that your school is having on students.”

The awards were based on the 2017 ACT Aspire scores, and these growth scores reflect how much students at the school improved from 2016 compared to how much they were expected to grow considering prior achievement.

The OP releases an Outstanding Educational Performance Awards report each year, and Pinkston’s name is featured in the middle school math section.

Dr. Long says the district has really put an emphasis on student growth. District officials want to recognize and celebrate student growth, so it was nice for the Pinkston students and teachers to receive this award recognizing all their hard work.
