Will Madonna headline the UK's most prestigious festival next year?

Last year, Ed Sheeran headlined the festival, which takes place on Worthy Farm in Somerset, England.  This year, there is no festival, to give the farm and the organizers a chance to recover. But The Sun reports that for the 2019 edition, Madonna is being lined up to star on the main stage.

An insider tells the paper, “Preparations are already well under way after they’ve taken this year off, and Glastonbury organizer Michael [Eavis] and his daughter Emily want to make it better than ever. They have always been massive fans of Madonna and know she would put on an unforgettable show.”

And according to the insider, booking Madonna would be a great way for the Eavis family to answer criticism that past Glastonbury festivals didn’t have enough female acts in the lineup.  If she does perform, she’ll be one of very few women who’ve headlined, including Adele, Beyonce and Florence + the Machine.

Madonna is working on new music right now, so it’s not hard to imagine that she might release a new album late this year and launch a tour in 2019, which would allow her to build an appearance at Glastonbury into her schedule next June.

Other acts rumored to be appearing: Taylor Swift, a reunited Led Zeppelin, and ABBA.
