“We were just four people that believed that we had something unique to share, and a great love for music, and each other, and family,” Karen Fairchild said as the group stepped onstage in the Hall’s rotunda. “And we have that incredible foundation of family that gives us the courage to think that we could conquer anything in our lives.”

Sincerity quickly gave way to humor, however, as Kimberly Schlapman stepped up to the mic to say her thank you’s.

“My husband [is] over there, who gave up his own career so that we could be on the road together and be family and make babies,” she reflected.

“And — aw! I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude and — we didn’t make babies on the road!” she clarified, as the crowd erupted in laughter. “Well, one we did…” she confessed.

“Well, kinda!” Jimi Westbrook jumped in.

“It was on a boat. It wasn’t on the road!” Karen Fairchild added.

“Not a pontoon!” Jimi joked, referencing the band’s first #1.

The exhibit celebrating the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year officially opens Friday and runs through June of next year.
