Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagicThis past April, fans were shocked to learn that Huey Lewis and the News were canceling all of their tour dates because Huey was suffering from an inner-ear disorder called Meniere’s disease. The condition caused Lewis to lose most of his hearing, and that, in turn, left him unable to sing.  Now, he’s supporting a charity that works to help people with hearing loss worldwide.

On July 15, Huey will attend the 2018 “So the World May Hear” Awards Gala in Saint Paul, Minnesota, which benefits the Starkey Hearing Foundation. The event raises funds for the foundation’s work supporting hearing health programs around the world, including fitting in-need children with hearing aids.

Huey has been working with Starkey Hearing Technologies during the last few months, and has been fitted with new, cutting-edge hearing aids.

Among the entertainers at this year’s gala are Gloria Gaynor and Alice Cooper. Comedian Sinbad will serve as master of ceremonies, and honorees include Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, legendary songwriter Paul Williams and Cooper’s manager, Shep Gordon.
