Pedestrian’s leg severed when struck by trailer near Cotter

A pedestrian lost a portion of his leg after being struck by a loose trailer on a bridge. The accident occurred Friday evening on U.S. Highway 62 between Cotter and the Blue Heron Campground.

According to Cotter Police Officer Joel Richardson, a truck was eastbound on the Highway 62 bridge when the trailer being towed behind became loose. The trailer struck the unidentified pedestrian causing his left leg to be severed. The pedestrian was transported originally to Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Officer Richardson was assisted in the 5 p.m. accident by officers from the Gassville Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police and by rescue personnel.
