ABC/Mark LevineSam Hunt admits he didn’t plan to tour this summer, intending to focus his attention on recording his follow-up to his smash album, Montevallo. Instead, the chance to work stadiums with Luke Bryan changed his mind.

“I really like Luke, first off,” Sam says, explaining his change of heart. “I’ve always been impressed with the way he carries himself, and the authenticity that he [has] as a personality.”

“He’s from Georgia,” Sam goes on, “so his personality and sense of humor, his demeanor is very familiar to me, because I’m from Georgia. So I feel like I could’ve gone to high school with Luke.”

Even though Sam is a crossover superstar himself, the “Body Like a Back Road” hitmaker confesses he admires what Luke’s been able to accomplish.

“Watching his career over the past several years,” Sam explains, “he’s really taken on that position as one of the two or three faces of country music in the modern era.”

“And that’s taken more than just music that people like,” Sam adds. “There’s a lot that goes into that, and he’s done a really great job at growing his fan base and doing what he does. I feel like he’s at the top of this game. So to be a part of the face of country music is pretty cool.”

This weekend, Sam and Luke played Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts as the latest stop on the What Makes You Country Tour — XL Stadium Sized. Sam’s new single, “Downtown’s Dead,” is nearing country’s top 15.
