Courtesy of HDNET MOVIESTonight at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, the HDNET MOVIES channel launches a week-long series of rock documentaries dubbed Classic Rock Week that Police drummer Stewart Copeland will host.

The marathon kicks off with Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out, a 2006 movie Copeland directed that features Super 8 footage he personally shot while touring during the group’s heyday.

Copeland tells ABC Radio that while his film is by no means professionally made, “it does have one unique factor, which is that it’s completely subjective. It’s not a documentary about a band, where there’s a camera here and the band there…The camera’s in the band.”

Among the other 18 films set to be shown during the marathon are documentaries focusing on Rod Stewart, The Doobie Brothers, Bad Company, Elton John, The Who, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers Band, Chicago, Eric Clapton, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd and more.

As for what his hosting duties will entail, Stewart explains, “I will be introducing [the films] and doing the links…and providing some sage insight into [the various bands]. I guess I’m the age group that was the target audience for all these bands…So, I share with viewers how those things hit me. Where was I when The Doors happened, and so on.”

The Classic Rock Week marathon also will include a doc about the 1982 US Festival, a three-day fest held in San Bernardino, California, that featured The Police as one of its headliners.

Copeland recalls that backstage at the event “was the wildest party ever,” but The Police didn’t get to enjoy it because by the time they finished its set, the other groups had left.
