ABC/Mark LevineBlake Shelton’s new single, “Turnin’ Me On,” has the distinction of being the only song on hisTexoma Shore album that he had a hand in writing.

The Oklahoma native was on the road in Louisiana when inspiration struck.

“I’m sitting on my bus one day earlier in 2017,” Blake explains, “and I think I was in Baton Rouge, and I was up there alone. I had my guitar. I started playing a little melody that I was hearing in my head, and next thing you know I started writing a song.”

“I wrote a verse,” he goes on, “and then I wrote a chorus, and then I realized it was going somewhere and I felt good about it.”

That’s when the “I Lived It” hitmaker decided it was time to call in the big guns.

“Like I always do in the last couple of years,” Blake says, “I called up my friend Jessi Alexanderand said, ‘I think I’m on to something and I need somebody way better than me to try to bring this thing home.’ And so she and I and Josh Osborne ended up writing this song.”

Jessi wrote Blake’s number ones “Drink on It” and “Mine Would Be You,” while Josh contributed the track “My Eyes” to his Based on a True Story… album.

“I’m super proud of it,” Blake says of “Turnin’ Me On,” “and [it’s] not hard to figure out who this song is about,” he teases. That person, of course, is his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani.
