The Bob Davis Veterans Shelter in Mountain Home is among 32 community-based organizations across five states receiving funding through the Partnership Grant Program (PGP) from the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Dallas.

FHLB Dallas matches member institution contributions at a 3:1 ratio to provide the selected organizations with up to $12,000. In Mountain Home, the Bob Davis Veterans Shelter Inc. received $7,500 from the bank.

The PGP grants support a variety of needs, including administrative expenses, equipment purchases, research studies related to economic development or affordable housing projects, new staff hires and program-related event sponsorships.

In late December, a building located at 429 East Ninth Street in Mountain Home was purchased with the purpose of transforming it into the Bob Davis Veterans Shelter for men.

Baxter Insurance owner and operator Joanna Baxter-Farris serves as the secretary/treasurer of the shelter’s board, and she told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news earlier this year the goal is to provide local veterans with a residence until they can get trained with a job and back on their feet.

The shelter is named after local machine shop owner Bob Davis. He has been asked in the past to build parts for an old motorcycle by the Smithsonian Institute, and he has shipped old motorcycle parts all over the world.

For more information about the shelter or donations, contact Baxter-Farris at 870-424-3535.
