Gassville hires new fire chief at Tuesday meeting

The city of Gassville has a new fire chief following Tuesday night’s city council meeting. Mayor Jeff Braim says Michael Glotzl has been hired as the new chief. Glotzl’s hire was approved unanimously by the council. He will start his duties next Monday.

Glotzl has 34 years of fire service experience. He worked 20 years in New York and spent six years fulltime with the Mountain Home Fire Deparment. He is currently a volunteer fireman for Mountain Home.

Glotzl replaces Christy Dewey, who had held the position for just under three months. Dewey tendered her resignation in a surprise announcement at the end of the council’s June meeting. Dewey said she was seeking to return to her EMS career at Baxter Regional Medical Center in a full-time capacity.

Dewey began her duties as fire chief in March, after she was hired to replace former Chief Bill Johnson who retired.

Dewey was named to the position after Buford resident Will Syfrett, who had been selected as the city’s new chief, decided not to accept the position.

In other business, the Gassville council came up with a name for the a new street and discussed a long-term lease for the old library building with Danny Montgomery.
