MANSFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Florida man
suspected of shooting a trooper is hospitalized in critical condition.

The Springfield News-Leader reports the patrol identified the suspect in
Wednesday’s shooting as 32-year-old 32-year-old Colby Rey, of Orlando, Florida,
on a county road north of Mansfield.

The trooper, 49-year-old Robert Crewse, was released from the hospital after
being treated for minor wounds.

The patrol says Crewse, another trooper and a Mansfield police officer were
investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle, and when they ordered a man to get
out of the car, he refused and shot at officers.

The officers returned fire, and Rey was hit several times.

Authorities say Rey is wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for
a parole violation on a weapons charge.
