Flippin has been acknowledged as a Purple Heart City. The recognition came earlier this month in a ceremony at Hickey Park.

State Representative Jack Fortner of Yellville welcomed three Purple Heart recipients.

Also on hand were Terri Garrett, representing U.S. Congressman Steve Womack, as well as Cpl. Aaron Mankin, veterans advocate from Rogers.

In addition, Chuck Adkins, Military Order of the Purple Heart, spoke on the beginning of the Purple Heart Association in 1992.

Bruce Emerson, Purple Heart advocate, presented Mayor Jerald Marberry and the City of Flippin a plaque and its first Purple Heart street sign.
