From “The Middle” to the top: Maren Morris lands at number one on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart

Nick WalkerMaren Morris continues to straddle genres with her latest collaboration.

“The Middle,” Maren’s duet with deejay/producer Zedd and electronic duo Grey, has landed at number one on Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart this week.

The song, which has received major airplay on both country and pop radio, is also #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a 25th week. Previously, it topped Billboard’s Pop Songs and Adult Pop Songs charts for seven weeks each, the publication reports.

Before Maren served as the lead vocalist on the song, 12 other women auditioned for the role. According to Variety, the females who lent their vocals to the track included Demi LovatoBebe Rexhaand Elle King.

“The Middle” was released earlier this year and the song’s premiere coincided with the Grammy Awards.

“I connected really heavily with the lyrics,” Maren previously said said of working on “The Middle.” “Being a songwriter, I could really appreciate that. I loved the range and how much vocal exercising I got to do.”
