FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Justices of the peace in a northwestern Arkansas
county have advanced a proposal to allow some individuals to conceal carry
handguns in some county buildings.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the Quorum Court voted
almost unanimously Thursday to advance the Benton County ordinance for a final
required reading before it can be law.

The ordinance would allow elected officials and some employees to have
concealed handguns in some buildings where possession isn’t prohibited by
federal or state laws. County employees must have the enhanced concealed carry
permit to have handguns in the allowed areas.

Susan Angling was the lone dissenting vote, saying she’s concerned about the
county’s potential liability should there be an incident involving an employee.

The court will consider the ordinance at its final reading Aug. 23.
