SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – A 57-year-old inmate at a federal prison hospital in Springfield has been sentenced to nearly five more years in prison for attacking another inmate.

Michael Singletary was sentenced Friday for attacking another inmate with an ice pick-style weapon in April 2016 at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners.

The Springfield News-Leader reports corrections officers intervened after the victim was stabbed several times. The inmate survived the attack.

Singletary’s attorney, Brady Musgrave, said before sentencing that the victim had threatened Singletary a few days before the attack.

Singletary is serving a 12-year sentence from 2014 for obstruction of justice and being a felon in possession of a firearm in California.
