The 26th edition of Hooten’s Arkansas Football magazine is on newsstands throughout the state. The most comprehensive publication contains over 400 pages as it previews the upcoming season for high school and college football teams around Arkansas including teams on the local level.

Mountain Home was selected by the coaches to finish seventh in the 6A-East, and the rankings on hootens.com has the Bombers 15th overall in Class 6A. Hooten’s expert Chuck Livingston says he expects Mountain Home’s season to begin smoother than it did a year ago when they changed coaches late in the offseason.

Pine Bluff is projected to be the winner of the 6A-East.

In 2017, Yellville-Summit advanced to the postseason for the first time in five years. The Panthers are expected to return to the playoffs this fall after the coaches picked them to finish fifth in the 3A-2. Yellville-Summit improved from the beginning of the season to end last year under the direction of first-year coach Lucas Morris, and Livingston believes that trend will continue.

Another area team is picked to advance to the Class 3A State Playoffs. Mountain View is expected by the coaches to finish fourth in the 3A-2, and Livingston says the Yellowjackets are poised to have more success than a year ago.

Marshall is the only local team in the conference expected to miss the postseason. The Bobcats are selected to finish eighth in the 3A-2.

Salem will look to match the success they had late last season as they are predicted to go back to the Class 2A State Playoffs. The Greyhounds are expected by the coaches to finish third in the 2A-3, and hootens.com has them ranked 20th overall in Class 2A, and linebacker Jordan Turner is on the Steve Landers Auto Group Super Team for Class 2A.
Salem had its deepest run in the postseason in 2017 after picking up a pair of road victories over Hector and Palestine-Wheatley and advancing to the semifinals following Earle’s forfeit for an ineligible player, and Livingston says that could happen again this season.
