Mountain Home is nearly a week away from hosting one of the country’s biggest summer youth sports events. For the second consecutive year, the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series will be played at McClain Park with its eight-day run beginning August 9th.

Mountain Home Youth Baseball President Tom Czanstkowski says preparations have been smoother this year since everyone pitching in has experience from a year ago.

Mountain Home will be one of two area teams taking part in this year’s World Series. Harrison also made the field after winning the North Arkansas state championship. Mountain Home and Harrison will be joined in the tournament by Southwest regional champion Eagle Pass, Texas, Southeast regional champion Greenville, North Carolina, New England regional champion Greater Portland, Maine, Pacific Southwest regional champion Five Cities, California, Pacific Northwest regional champion West Linn, Oregon, Ohio Valley regional champion West Louisville, Kentucky, Midwest Plains regional champion Bemidji, Minnesota, and Middle Atlantic regional champion Broomall-Newtown, Pennsylvania.

The ten teams in the Babe Ruth World Series will be split into two five-team divisions, American and National. Each team will play a round robin format against the other four teams in their respective divisions. At the end of division play, the top three teams from each division will advance to a single-elimination bracket to determine the world champion.

In addition to being the MHYB president, Czanstkowski is serving as one of the coaches for Mountain Home’s 13-year-olds. He says the team has worked hard in preparing to face some of the best teams in the country, but they also have an advantage of playing in the World Series of a couple of the Cal Ripken age divisions.
