LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A dozen sites in Arkansas have been nominated to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The recommendations come from the State Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.
The list includes a cemetery for black settlers of Conway County, with graves dating to the 1880s. A towboat ferry on the Ouachita River was also nominated. The Moro Bay Ferry operated from 1965 to 1992.
Another recommendation is Garland Elementary School in Little Rock, touted as being built in 1924 with elements of the classical revival style.
The Meadow Spring Historic District at Fayetteville has buildings dating to the 1870s.
The board made the recommendations Wednesday. A decision on whether to include any, or all, of the sites on the national register is expected later this year.
