Mountain Home cruises in Babe Ruth Baseball World Series opener

The Babe Ruth 13-Year-Old World Series began its eight-day run Thursday at McClain Park in Mountain Home, and the host team was able to get a win in the last game of the day. Mountain Home began division play by shutting out Bemidji, Minnesota, 6-0. Mountain Home begins the tournament at 1-0 in the American Division.

Another area team played its first game in the World Series but was not as fortunate. Harrison fell to Greenville, North Carolina, by a final of 16-0. Harrison starts off at 0-1 in the National Division.

In earlier action, Five Cities, California, defeated Eagle Pass, Texas, 4-0, and Greater Portland, Maine, topped West Louisville, Kentucky, by a score of 7-4.
