As the high school football season narrows closer to opening, Mountain Home has been preparing for its second year under the direction of head coach Bryan Mattox. The Bombers will have their first chance to hit another team Thursday when they go to Blytheville for a preseason scrimmage, and Friday marks the ninth-annual First Security Bank Bomberfest.

Mattox says the number of players on his roster is anywhere in the mid to upper 40s, and this year’s team is young. Mattox goes on to say he has the advantage of having more time to prepare than he did a year ago.

A year ago, Mattox was named the head coach late in the offseason following the resignation of David Joyce. He says it proved to be a barrier since he and his team were limited on prep time.
