OCC – Twin Lakes Civitan Club

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, 31.3 percent of adults in Arkansas have some type of disability, higher than the national average of 22.5 percent. Composed of everyday citizens, the members of the Twin Lakes Civitan Club #3978 work together to better the lives of those living with developmental disabilities.Treasurer Susie Wilson says the club helps those with special needs through various community events.

Wilson says though those with developmental disabilities are the group’s main focus, the club also makes an effort to help other citizens who may have special needs or those needing help with their daily living.

Additionally, Wilson says many of those living with special needs need more support than relief programs like Medicaid can provide.

Wilson believes those with special needs are sometimes overlooked, and it’s the community’s job to make sure they aren’t.

The Twin Lakes Civitan Club #3978 is a 501(c3) non-profit organization working to better the lives of its fellow citizens, with an emphasis on helping those with developmental disabilities, through financial support and hands-on projects. The group meets the first Tuesday and third Thursday evening of each month at 6:00 at Pizza Inn in Mountain Home. All are welcome to attend the meetings and participate in the work the club does.
