An Izard County woman, 29-year-old Nicole Skidmore, has been charged with a felony count of forgery in connection with an incident beginning with the sale of an antique Barbie doll.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday, the charge follows a report of a forgery incident to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office by a relative of Skidmore’s estranged husband.

The man who reported the forgery incident said he received a letter from his financial institution, accompanied by a check and a bank draft notice. The check was made out to Skidmore from a New Jersey business in the amount of $1,900.

He told law enforcement while he never signed the check nor authorized it, the document was endorsed with both Skidmore’s signature and his.

Monday morning Skidmore was contacted by phone. She told law enforcement she sold an antique Barbie doll on eBay for $500. She said she then received a check by mail for $1,900, with instructions the difference in the amount of the check and the price of the doll was to be sent to another person. She said she had messages with these instructions. The person was not identified in the affidavit. Skidmore also allegedly told the officer she and her estranged husband had been allowed to sign the male relative’s name in the past.

Skidmore’s bond was set at $5,000.
