BBR Music Group Newcomer Lindsay Ell is pouring some “Champagne” as the follow-up to “Criminal,” her first top-20 hit in the U.S.

In her native Canada, “Criminal” went all the way to #1, making Lindsay the first female to top the charts in the past decade. She’s up for both Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for The Project at the Canadian Country Music Awards next month.

Meanwhile, Lindsay’s funky new single happens to namecheck the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who passed away on Thursday. In the tune, Lindsay sings about getting the A-list treatment in a relationship: “So naturally diva, just call me Aretha, for real/You make me feel like I’m the champagne.”

“Champagne” is available to stream or download now, or you can check out a stripped-down performance by the impressive guitarist on YouTube.
