NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The Sun Belt Conference is entering an historic season for the 18-year-old league. The winners of two new geographically-aligned five-team divisions will meet for the Sun Belt’s first title game. Recent Sun Belt powers Appalachian State and Arkansas State are preseason favorites in their respective divisions. Expectations are also high at Troy and Louisiana-Monroe. Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson says the new setup raises the stakes of conference games.
