CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) – A Missouri student has pulled off a rare feat – a perfect 36 on his ACT exam.
The Southeast Missourian reports that Cape Girardeau Central senior Michael Hwang received a 36 on every section of his ACT, and he took the test only once.
About one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a perfect score.
Hwang’s success on the test was no surprise. He has a successful YouTube channel and is already studying at Southeast Missouri State University.
Hwang’s father is an assistant professor at Southeast. He says he studies about two hours a day.
He has competed at national-level mathematics contests, and he teaches. His high school guidance counselor, Nita DuBose, says Hwang has a gift for breaking down tough material.
