BMLGWhat could be better than having an autobiographical hit that gives a shout-out to your wife and your two daughters?

That’s the situation Thomas Rhett’s in right now, but he took it one step further: he co-wrote “Life Changes” with his dad, ACM Songwriter of the Year Rhett Akins.

“It’s so personal…” Akins explains. “It’s really his exact life. And we were thinking, I don’t know how many people out there know or care what he did in college or whatever.”

“But we wrote it just for fun,” he continues, “and his label liked it and said, ‘Well, let’s at least put it on the album. It’s your life story.’ And then, as the album’s progressed, people are just insanely in love with his wife Lauren, his kids Willa and Ada.”

The proud grandfather believes his granddaughters probably deserve some of the credit for the song’s success.

“Even though everybody loves Thomas Rhett for his music,” he explains, “he also has another whole side of him that people are in love with, and that’s his family life. So I guess that’s why it’s working on radio.”

In addition to being an award-winning singer/songwriter, Thomas Rhett’s also said his dad is his best babysitter for his granddaughters. Rhett Akins had his own hits as an artist in the 90’s with top-five songs like “That Ain’t My Truck” and the #1, “Don’t Get Me Started.”
