Reports of loud boom come in Twin Lakes Area; nothing identified

Several reports have come in to KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot and to local emergency personnel on a loud boom Monday afternoon between 2:30 and 2:40, and several photos were posted of contrails circling the sky following the boom. Lieutenant Hunter Rininger of the Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville says there were no military aircraft in the area loud enough to cause such a sound.

A Baxter County 9-1-1 dispatch spokesperson says they have received calls from citizens all over Baxter County, but nothing has been identified. Sheriff’s offices in Baxter, Fulton and Izard Counties also have not been able to pinpoint the cause of the boom. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot have received calls from listeners in Mountain Home, Norfork, Clarkridge, Viola, Salem and Calico Rock.

The U.S. Geological Survey is not reporting any earthquakes in the area.

MC man flees on motorcycle with no license plate, fishing pole strapped to handlebars

A Yellville man, 44-year-old Marshall Gibson, Jr., has been charged with felony fleeing following an incident beginning in Summit earlier this month.

According to the affidavit, Gibson was spotted by a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy sitting on a motorcycle without a visible license plate with a fishing pole strapped to the handlebars.

Once Gibson pulled onto Highway 202, the officer noted the motorcycle did not have an illuminated head lamp.

Knowing where Gibson lives, the officer made his way to the Yellville man’s home on State Highway 62. As Gibson approached his residence, the deputy initiated his emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

The officer pursued Gibson for a short distance with his lights activated before bumping his siren to get his attention. However, Gibson refused to stop.

Gibson then allegedly looked back at the deputy before accelerating at a high rate of speed, passing a vehicle in a reckless manner, as well as others as oncoming traffic approached.

The officer lost sight of Gibson as he passed the highway department outside of Yellville and advised dispatch to have Flippin Police officers and Baxter County Sheriff’s officers to be on the lookout for the Yellville man.

With several officers assisting in the search, what appeared to be a motorcycle track going into a driveway in the Rae Valley area was spotted. A woman at the residence told the officer a motorcycle did turn in at her driveway, went through her gate and into her pasture.

Officers were able to locate Gibson. But prior to transporting him to the sheriff’s office they walked a large part of the immediate area searching for the motorcycle unsuccessfully. Gibson told them he had been at the location most of the day and has not been driving a motorcycle. .

During a later interview, Gibson allegedly admitted fleeing from the deputy, saying his motorcycle is not registered, and he did not want it impounded again. He told officers the vehicle was at the area where he was taken into custody. However, a further search was still unsuccessful.

In addition to the felony charge, Gibson was cited for five traffic violations. His bond was set at $5,000.

5 charged following Lakeview, Gassville joint investigation

Five people suspected in numerous thefts in Lakeview have been charged, with four taken into custody and a fifth still at large.

Lakeview Police Chief Dave Hotchkiss says the arrests follow his department receiving intelligence information developed by the Gassville Police Department.

On July 16th, Lakeview officers responded to nine separate reported thefts to motor vehicles within the City of Lakeview. Reports indicated numerous items were taken from the vehicles.

On July 19th, Lakeview officers were contacted by members of the Gassville Police Department to inquire about recent thefts. Chief Hotchkiss discovered many of the items stolen in the Lakeview thefts had been recovered by Gassville Police.

Gassville Police Captain Everett Uchtman had arrested 24-year-old Tyler Rivera of Flippin July 18th and had recovered some of the items reported stolen in the Lakeview incidents. Capt. Uchtman subsequently obtained a search warrant for Rivera’s cell phone.

Capt. Uchtman shared the information he obtained from the phone records and developed creditable information leading to a residence in Flippin where Rivera had been staying. With assistance from the Flippin and Bull Shoals police departments, numerous stolen items related to the Lakeview thefts were recovered at the residence.

Intelligence information, physical evidence and information obtained from the cell phone search warrant led to the arrest of Drew Smith of Conway, whose age was not available. Officers learned Smith was on probation with a signed search waiver on file. Lakeview Police officers traveled to Conway, where assisted by members of the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas Department of Probation and Parole, they traveled to Smith’s home and took him into custody. A search of his residence led to several items stolen from the thefts reported in the City of Lakeview. As part of this investigation, a handgun stolen at a residence in Baxter County was also located.

Further information obtained during the review of Rivera’s cell phone records has led to the arrests of Morgan Neal and 18-year-old Amanda Hannah, both of Flippin. Neal’s age was not available. A fifth suspect remains at large.

Online information from the Baxter County Detention Center indicates Rivera is charged with a felony count of theft of property, along with breaking or entering a building structure, and a parole violation, as well as several misdemeanor counts. Specific charges for the other three suspects were not available.

1 transported to BRMC following 2-vehicle crash

One person was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center Wednesday following a two-vehicle crash on the Sheid-Hopper Bypass at its intersection with Glenbriar Drive.

According to a Mountain Home Police Department report, the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by 74-year-old Charlotte Stone of Mountain Home entered the bypass from Glenbriar. A second vehicle driven by 22-year-old Caleb McClain of Batesville was traveling east on the bypass.

Stone failed to yield the right of way traveling north on Glenbriar, crossing the eastbound lane of the bypass. McClain was unable to stop his vehicle due to the wet and rainy conditions, striking the left side of Stone’s vehicle.

Stone then crossed the centerline, with her vehicle spinning counter clockwise before coming to its final rest facing west in the center grassy median of the bypass. McClain’s vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the bypass.

Stone was transported by ambulance to BRMC with what was reported as suspected serious injury. The report noted possible injury to McClain.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the 3:08 p.m. accident.
