A two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon just east of the U.S. Highway 62 and College Street intersection sent one driver to Baxter Regional Medical Center, with the second fleeing the scene on foot.

According to the report from the Mountain Home Police Department, a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Gerald Hedges of Mountain Home was traveling west when, according to a witness, it swerved across all lanes of traffic. Hedges’ vehicle struck an eastbound vehicle in the inside traffic lane driven by 33-year-old Edd Moody of Mountain Home.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, while forcing Moody’s car backwards approximately 50 feet before coming to rest. Hedges’ vehicle left the north side of the roadway before coming to rest. Hedges then left the scene on foot before being located.

Moody was transported by ambulance to BRMC for what were described as suspected serious injuries.

According to the witness statement, the Hedges vehicle had been observed swerving earlier. As the witness was attempting to report the driver, her vehicle was stopped by a red traffic signal. When she was able to proceed, she came upon the two-vehicle accident.

The report notes Hedges was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the 4:51 p.m. accident.
