FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Fewer people are living in homeless encampments on University of Arkansas-owned land as the deadline looms for them to leave the property.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports university police have issued warnings this week to people living on the south Fayetteville property. Capt. Gary Crain says individuals still at the site on Thursday will be arrested.

Solomon Burchfield is the director of operations at 7 Hills Homeless Center. He says about 25 people remained at the camps as of Tuesday. The nonprofit estimated up to 100 people lived on the site in May.

University police cite rising crime and a lack of resources as reasons behind breaking up the camps.

Victor Neblett has been at the camps for a year. He says the Thursday deadline “means stress, panic” and sadness.
